After failing to win in their first two matches in the Ghana Premier League, Elmina Sharks and Accra Hearts of Oak thumped their opponents to record their first win of the season.

With a draw against defending champions Aduana Stars and painful loss to Dreams FC, Elmina Sharks gave a good account of themselves by beating West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi while Accra Hearts of Oak silenced Dreams FC by a goal to nil in Cape Coast.

The Fearsome Sharks opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Benjamin Arthur headed in a Richard Mpong free-kick from the right before Daniel Obeng Crentsil slotted home the second goal through an Ofoe Ofutsu header in the second half to hand WAFA their first defeat of the season.

In Cape Coast, Patrick Razak scored for the second successive game as Hearts of Oak also silenced noisy rivals Dreams FC with a 1-0 victory at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians scored the only goal after 20 minutes when Razak drilled home from the penalty spot after reacting quickest to a low cross from Christopher Boney. Dreams responded well before the break but were repelled by an organised Hearts of Oak defence marshalled by Benjamin Agyare and Fatawu Mohammed.

Both sides became increasingly ragged in the second half but Hearts desperately held on for maximum points and condemned the Dawu-based side to their first defeat of the season. Following their defeat, Dreams FC have dropped from the top four while Hearts of Oak now occupy the third spot.

In other matches, Yahaya Mohammed led Aduana Stars to massacre Inter Allies at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park in Dormaa Ahenkoro by handing them a 6-0 defeat.

A first half hat trick by on-fire Yahaya Mohammed weakened Kenichi’s boys who were reduced to 10-men following Kwame Baah’s dismissal in the early minutes of the game.

Yahaya Mohammed was granted another opportunity to register a double-brace from a spot kick but he shot wide. Both sides returned from the break with Aduana Stars pushing for more goals which never stopped coming.

Bright Adjei increased the tally to four with Nathaniel Asamoah adding the fifth momenta later. Skipper Emmanuel Akuoko added the 6th goal few minutes to the end of the game to hand Inter Allies their greatest defeat since joining the top flight.

At the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park Karela United FC striker Diwiasie Taylor scored the fastest goal in Ghana Premier League history as his side beat Ebusua Dwarfs 3-0 on Sunday. Taylor opened the scoring after just 14 seconds in the match before Isaac Kwain and Donald Wellington sealed the first win for the league debutants.
